Noctilucent Clouds and Aurora. This image was taken 8 August 2012 while airborne at 35,000 feet. From this position near Churchill on Hudson Bay central Canada (near 61N, 090W) it would have been bright Arctic dawn only a month ago, and this sight would not have been seen at all. Bright aurora during twilight takes a bit of luck and I was extremely fortunate to have a bright horizon display of NLC at the same time, contrasting red, blue and green. Truly incredible sight! The planet Jupiter is visible just to the right of the lower green aurora. Also visible is the planet Venus rising just above the red horizon in mid-picture.
